Gavilan Farm

The Difference is in the Details

Located on 45 pristine acres in North Carolina—just a few miles outside the equestrian enclave of Southern Pines—Gavilan Farm is a professional full-service training facility for event horses. Ideally situated next to 140,000 acres of preserved wildlife, the facility offers a beautiful and peaceful respite for horses under the meticulous care of Will and his staff.

Gavilan Farm amenities include:

  • 150 x 250 all-weather outdoor sand arena
  • Grass dressage arena
  • Eleven large individual fields
  • Four grass recovery paddocks
  • Fourteen 12’ x12’ stalls in main barn
  • Three 15’ x 24’ recovery stalls
  • Endless trails in the neighboring North
  • Carolina Wildlife Preserve
  • 30 minutes south of Southern Pines, NC
  • 30 minutes from the Carolina Horse Park

 The Barn and Paddocks

Taken over in 2008, the barn at Gavilan Farm was just a shell of a structure before it was methodically redesigned by Will himself. Drawing from his lifelong experience as a horseman and taking the best features from the barns he had been involved with in his past, Will rebuilt his new facility with an emphasis on horse safety and optimal functionality—down to the very last detail. The end result is an immaculately kept 14 stall barn that puts the care and the comfort of the horse first. The barn includes 2 wash stalls, tack room, laundry facilities and a lounge

The property boasts ample pasture for the Gavilan horses, offering as many turnout options as it does stalls. Outside the barn are 15 paddocks—6 of which are individual. The 9 shared paddocks are generous in size.

The Training Facility

Gavilan Farm has an all-weather, outdoor arena, complete with mirrors for proper training. The superior footing provides an ideal environment for both flatwork and jumping. For cross-country schooling, Will has access to the comprehensive course at Mark-Weissbecker’s facility—a 15 minute trailer ride to Southern Pines. And with over 100,000 acres of preserved North Carolina wildlife as their neighbor, Will has full use of an extensive trail system that includes rolling hills, open fields and miles of trail-riding for all his horses-in-training.
